For drawing, sketching, and photo editing projects in particular, the Ugee graphic pen tablet range is a terrific place to start.

These are drawing tablets without a screen, so you draw on the tablet while looking at your screen.

However, They still offer the pressure-sensitivity, immaculate pen performance, hotkeys, and more that artists most frequently want.

These drawing tablets aren’t as powerful as others but they are the most affordable. This makes them the best option for budding artists who want to start doing digital art without spending too much on a tablet, for now.

There are few models available for purchase: Ugee M708 V3, M808, M908, S640 (6×4 inches active area), S1060, and more. I recommend you get the Ugee M808 or M908, which are the most advanced and value for money models.

The prices are USD 49 and USD 39 respectively. The only difference between the two is M808 doesn’t have dial (zoom in and out of your canvas) and less hotkeys.

I try the Ugee M908, It’s a good looking tablet with fantastic drawing performance.

It offers a large 10 x 6.25 inch active drawing space, giving users plenty of room for their digital artwork.

Build quality is plasticky but solid enough. The hotkeys and dial are useful if you need them. Not to mention there is an eraser on the top end of the pen.

The PH23 pen produces a nice tactile experience on the matte drawing surface. The 16K pressure levels, and tilt recognition ensure precise and smooth drawing.

Pricing is reasonable and competitive with other brands. There are no deal breakers.

2. Drawing Tablets With Screen

UGEE UE12 PLUS Drawing Monitor

UGEE Pen Displays are interactive display monitors that give users the ability to draw, paint, and design directly on the screen.

They are used by designers to quickly and accurately create digital artwork, illustrations, and animations or edit photos using the pressure-sensitive pen.

The pressure sensitivity of the displays allow for fine control over the thickness of lines and strokes, so designers can create detailed graphic design with great precision.

There are different models and sizes. They are not portable because you need to be plugged in to your computer to work.

There are different models and sizes. Although the UGEE Pen Displays have a screen of their own, they are not portable “pen computers”. They need to be plugged in to your computer to work.

These are in the higher price range, with the smallest model starting at $169. Look no further, you won’t find such a lower price for a display tablet.

Both the Ugee UE12 & UE12 Plus are good compact drawing monitors with great tech specs and budget pricing aimed at beginners.

The differences between them are the size and hotkeys: 11.6 vs 11.9-inches and the UE12 has 8 hotkeys while UE12 Plus has 8 hotkeys and a scroll wheel.

The IPS Panel is very pleasant to look at and has FHD (1920×1080) resolution and wide color gamut of 147% sRGB. The image looks crisp and vibrant and won’t easily tire your eyes.

In addition, The screen is fully laminated, with an anti-glare and paper-like surface, to make the whole drawing experience much more comfortable.

It supports direct connection via a single full-featured USB-C cable, which definitely reduces cable clutter. If you have a desktop computer, you can also connect it using a 3-in-1 cable (HDMI+2 USB-A Cables to USB-C).

The U-Pencil generally feels comfortable in the hand. There are two buttons close to the nib end, and an eraser button on the end. In use the Ugee 16 feels responsive and accurate.

With 16K levels of pressure sensitivity, low IAF, and 60° tilt recognition, this stylus enables you to achieve intricate brush strokes and varying intensities.

I feel like you should probably stretch you budget slightly to go for the UGEE UE16 if you can. It has a 15.4-inch display that allows creative people like you to have a better view of your designs, and drawing more comfortably.

3. Pen Computers — Ugee UT2 and UT3

UGEE UT3 Standalone Drawing Tablet

The Ugee UT2 and UT3 are versatile standalone android drawing tablets that lets you take your design work with you while on the go.

The biggest difference between them is the sizes, 10.36” (UT2) and 14.25” (UT3), each of them has slightly different specifications available so that you can choose the one that fits your needs better.

I recommend you get the Ugee UT2 that offers a balance of performance, portability and affordability.

The Ugee UT2 runs on Android 14, and doesn’t need to be connected to your computer to work. This makes it a great choice for artists and designers who need a portable device for their work.

This model features a Octa-core MediaTek MT8781 processor, 6GB of RAM, and 128GB Storage, making it fully up to the task of running common creative software.

Battery capacity is 7,000 mAh. I was able to get around 7 and a half hours of battery life when using the tablet at maximum brightness.

The 10.36-inch LCD screen has a resolution of 2000 x 1200, 350 nits brightness, and 100% sRGB of color gamut. Visuals look sharp and Colors are vibrant enough, providing a great canvas for your digital art.

The 4096 pressure levels and tilt recognition of the battery-free U Pencil is remarkable, especially with nice software such as the provided IbisPaint X and Clip Studio Paint tools which turn pressure into brush-stroke size.

Even better, With its NanoMatte screen featuring an anti-glare and paper-like finish, the UT2 was enjoyable to draw on as the pen would glide with some resistance.

Experience with UGEE

UGEE UT2 pen tablet computer

My experience with UGEE started when I got a Ugee M908 tablet in 2023.

I jumped right in and started first with getting comfortable with how the pencil made general marks and how the pressure changed with how much pressure I applied. After doodling for quite some time, moved to coloring.

It only requires ONE usb cable to work ( This was a lot of fun, but I felt so seperated from my drawings. I really needed to be able to draw straight on what I was seeing.

So, eventually I found a decently priced Ugee UT2. Now, I could use Clip Studio Paint and draw right on the same screen. A bonus with this UGEE is that I can use it without a computer since it is a full blown Android machine.

My Ugee UT2 is more convenient, so if I am traveling about, that is most likely will be my go to. If I am at home or in my studio, then my Ugee M908 will get a bit more use – I need the desktop graphics software like photoshop, illustrator, blender, etc.

In Conclusion

Overall, ugee tablet is a good choice if you’re on a budget and want to buy or upgrade your drawing tablet without spending much money.

With so many great Ugee drawing tablets available, so you can be confident that you will find one that meets your needs and preferences.

For artists looking for an affordable, accessible way to jump into the digital art world, the non-screen Ugee graphic tablet line is an excellent choice.
