Hook Up Samsung Android Tablet to Chromebook for Drawing

You are a digital artist and have both a chromebook and a samsung galaxy android tablet that have a built-in S Pen.

And you are trying to find a way to connect the samsung tablet to the Chromebook so that you can use it like a drawing pad and for handwriting functionality.

So, what you need is a mirror app like Superdisplay that allows connection between the two devices and using the samsung tablet as a pen display just like wacom cintiq.

Is it possible like this? Unfortunately! While android tablets like samsung may one day work with Chromebooks, the answer for now is no. At least, not in any capacity that would make them worth using.

Don’t worry! I will give you some other solutions so you can draw and write on your Chromebook smoothly.

Can I Connect a Samsung Android Tablet to a Chromebook for Drawing?

No, you can’t do that. Based on my reserach, there is no peripheral or mirror app support for hooking up a samsung tablet to a chromebook and used as a drawing tablet.

Samsung DeX for PC lets you access all your mobile apps and content on any compatible Windows PC, but nothing like this yet for chromebooks that I have heard of.

In addition, The third-party mirror apps like SuperDisplay, virtualtablet, SpaceDesk, DuetDisplay and more are not able to connect samsung android tablet to chromebook. The primary “computer” that provides the display to extend must be a Windows PC or Mac computer.

In other words, you can connect you android or chromebook to a windows or mac computer via these third-party mirror apps. But it is not used to connect the two systems of android and chrome os.

How Use a stylus with your Chromebook for drawing?

You’re probably better off using the Chromebook as a standalone drawing tablet or just going out and getting a cheap screenless drawing tablet like wacom one or intuos.

1. Use the Chromebook as a standalone drawing tablet

There’s numerous Chromebooks that have a built-in USI stylus or are at least come with support for it, just check out the pen compatibility before buying.

In this case, You can use the USI stylus to take notes and screenshots, draw, or act as a laser pointer or magnifying glass.

If your chromebook have a built-in USI stylus, The stylus maybe attaches externally to the device or is often garaged inside the chassis of the device.

If your chromebook support USI stylus input but doesn’t come with one, You can find USI pens for very cheap on Amazon or other online store.

Here are some prime examples: Samsung Galaxy Chromebook 2, Lenovo Chromebook Duet 5, Lenovo IdeaPad Duet 3 Chromebook, HP Elite Dragonfly Chromebook, Acer Chromebook Spin 714, Asus Chromebook Detachable, ASUS Chromebook Flip CM3401, Asus Chromebook Vibe CX34 Flip.

2. Use a Graphics Pen Tablet

Many drawing tablets got support for Chromebooks, but only if your Chrome OS 88 or later (Kernel 4.4 + required).

You can easily get a graphics tablet that is compatible with your Chromebook, just check the pen tablet compatibility in tech specs before buying.

Almost all modern models of the brand support this feature. As long as it’s not an antique model before 2019.

Some well-known examples include one by wacom, wacom intuos, XPPen Deco 640, XPPen Deco 01 V2, Huion Inspiroy H640p, etc.

With pen tablets, you can easily draw, sketch, take notes, write formulas and equations, and annotate PDFs on your Chromebook.

However, Since chromebook can’t install drivers of a graphics tablet. It is plug in and play. Although it can draw as a pen, the pressure sentivity functions will not work. Also, You are unable to configure any options like express keys.

What drawing apps will run on Chromebook?

The ability to run Android apps gives you far more choices than you’d have in-browser alone. And for even more, they can also run Linux programs with some prep work.

However, Although Chromebook can run Android applications, it’s not natively run like on an Android tablet.

Browser-based Apps: Aggie, Sketchpad, YouiDraw, InspirARTion, Photopea, Kleki, Pixilart Draw, Sketch.io, Sumopaint, etc.

Android Art Apps: Sketchbook Pro, Medibang Paint, Clip Studio Paint, Infinite Painter, Ibis Paint X, ArtFlow, Concepts, Artrage Vitae, Krita, Dotpict, PaperColor, etc.

Linux Apps: Krita, Gimp, Inkscape, etc.

Conclusion

While some may be disappointed that samsung android tablets can’t be used as drawing tablets with Chromebooks, there is still a great solution for artists and it’s a more-native one.

Any Chromebook with a stylus or get an extra drawing tablet lets you do the same thing at a more affordable price.

No matter an USI stylus or a pen from graphics pad, The pressure sensitivity is not really working in chromebook.

If you are a serious artist, you’d be better off investing in a professional Windows laptop or Apple Macbook with drawing tablet rather than chromebook. Of course, iPad and Samsung standalone drawing tablets are also good choices.

Hope this helps!
