Drawing on a 22 inch gigantic display tablet is probably the dream of every artist.
Although there are many 22-inch drawing tablets on the market, the upgraded Huion Kamvas 22 Plus (Gen 3) is the best option out of all.
There’s QHD clarity, vibrant color, rapid response and high sensitivity to angle and pressure will be very satisfying. Best of all, it’s yours for well under $600.
I waited a long time after receiving my Huion Kamvas 22 Plus (Gen 3) before writing this review, because after using, and loving, my small portable apple ipad, I wanted to really put the Kamvas 22 Plus (Gen 3) through its paces.
If you’re interested in getting more hands on with your work in a digital way, I think you are really going to like this product.
What’s In The Box?
In the box you get the display, tablet stand, the stylus and the 3 connection cables (USB-A, USB-C and HDMI), a Power Adapter, Pen Slot, Pen Holder, 10 replacement pen nibs, Screwdriver & Screw Set, cleaning cloth and a glove, which is pretty neat, ensuring you have everything needed for setup and use.
Design & Build Quality
The tablet looks very clean and minimal. No large bezels and hotkeys! The whole front face of the tablet is covered with glass, with a thin, slim plastic rim protecting the edges.
On the back, you would find four 100×100mm VESA mounts for attaching the tablet stand.
The build quality of the tablet is quite solid and sturdy. Everything on the tablet looks uniform, there were no panel gaps or no loose parts, and nothing squeaked or bent when applying pressure – everything fitted together incredibly well.
There are also rubber feet under the monitor and the tablet stand. These help the monitor stay in place on the table. It doesn’t slip or move easily.
Screen Quality
The tablet has a large screen of 21.5 inches, so you’ll never run out of room when drawing. There would be less need for zooming and panning in a small screen.
Unlike most 22-inch display tablets with FHD 1080p resolution, Kamvas 22 Plus (Gen 3) has a higher 2.5K QHD (2560 x 1440 pixels) resolution which is reasonably sharp for the size. While drawing you don’t notice individual pixels.
Potentially, a professional photographer might want to use a 4K monitor in addition, to check and view photos, but the actual process of working on images is well suited to the QHD resolution and doesn’t leave me wanting any more.
Refresh rate is 90Hz, which allows the display to react more quickly to pen input, greatly reducing the perception of lag when working on the device.
I measured color support for 99% sRGB, 94% DCI-P3, and 90% AdobeRGB so color accuracy is vibrant, ideal for color-critical workflows, such as animation, photography, and video editing.
A normal run-of-the-mill screen comes with a contrast ratio of 1000:1. The Kamvas 22 Plus (Gen 3) has an impressive contrast ratio of 1200:1, delivering deeper blacks and brighter whites.
This incredible professional-grade color accuracy is achieved through quantum dot technology (QLED), which is usually used in high-end television screens.
Quantum Dot technology also helps reduce harmful blue light which is great for people such as digital artists who use these displays at close distances.
Matte Etched Glass Surface
Huion have done a great job of retaining the ‘paper’ feel of the screen surface.
Some budget tablets use a thin matte textured plastic film and apply it on the top surface. On prolonged uses, this plastic sheet gets scratched, plus the texture also wears off.
The Huion Kamvas 22 Plus comes with a nice etched glass surface, where the texture are etched on the glass itself. It is more resistant to scratches (compared to plastic film) and offers superior drawing experience.
When you draw on the screen, it produces a scratchy sensation like paper and offers satisfying feel.
Anti-glare is effective. The matte etched glass surface provides the right amount of radiance without too many reflections for outside lighting.
The surface is also not susceptible to fingerprints and if there are any they are easy to wipe off.
Fully Laminated Screen
Parallax is one of the few things that makes drawing on a Kamvas or pen display less natural than drawing on paper.
The screen of the drawing tablet is made out of multiple constituent layers. The lights coming out of these screen bounces between the small air gaps between the layers – causing parallax issue.
The display of Kamvas 22 Plus (Gen 3) is fully laminated so there’s no air gap between the LCD panel and the surface.
It has no discernible parallax issue—I found the tip to perform quite accurately, the cursor is where I expect to be.
Stylus Pen
Kamvas 22 Plus (Gen 3) tablet comes with Huion’s top-tier PW600L battery-free stylus.
The pen is wider at the tip and slowly tapers down towards the back.
The center of weight of the stylus is forward set. This shape and weight distribution help the pen to naturally rest in hand with the tip down.
The front half of the stylus has a grippy silicone material that provides excellent grip even on wet or oily hands.
Thanks to EMR technology, you don’t need to put in a battery or recharge the PW600L; it simply draws its power electromagnetically from the tablet itself.
It provides impressive 16,384 levels of pressure sensitivity and about 60 degrees of tilt response, giving you incredible precision and accuracy. You can easily control the width and opacity of the pen.
The stylus comes with Huion’s most advanced PenTech 4.0 where the magnetic core has been lowered and improved to detect lighter touches.
With a very low IAF (initial activation force) of 2g, It responds to the lightest of touches and draws very stable, smooth, and consistent strokes every single time.
Multi-angle adjustable Tablet Stand
The Kamvas 22 Plus (Gen 3) comes with a fully adjustable multi-angle tablet stand that helps with support and screen angle. . It seemed well built and sturdy enough,
You can use the screws and screwdriver included to attach the stand to the tablet using the VESA mounts and you are good to go.
It allows me to change the tilt angle of the tablet anywhere from 20 degrees to 80 degrees simply by a push of a button.
This is very handy and ergonomic as I have discovered that over time, it becomes tiring to use the display at a fixed angle.
Compatibility & Device Setup
This display supports Windows, Android and Mac and is compatible with all industry standard creative software tools.
Installing the software drivers from the Huion website was pretty easy. There are separate links for the Windows and Mac drivers.
Once downloaded and installed you can calibrate the stylus and tweak the properties of the stylus to your preference.
Connectivity
The Kamvas 22 Plus comes with a HDMI, a USB-C and a DC Power port, which are located on the right edge of the back of the tablet.
With both HDMI and USB-C cable connection support you should have no problem connecting this to any computer. Most computers support at least one of the inputs.
If you have a regular windows desktop computer, use the HDMI Cable connection. If you have a laptop like the MacBook Pro, or dell xps, use the single USB-C cable.
Drawing Experience
I now use the Kamvas 22 Plus (Gen 3) every day. This is mainly for drawing in Photoshop or illustrator, texture painting in 3DCoat and sculpting in ZBrush, but I am also attempting to use it for more 3D work in Maya via the Marking Menus, which helps to streamline this process.
Drawing directly on screen wins hands down for me. Seeing the artwork appear underneath the pen, as it would on paper, speeds up your workflow and gives a natural feel to the work.
Once I turned the tablet display on I was greeted with a display of vibrant colors. Surprisingly, the colors perfectly matched the colors on my monitor and there was no need to adjust them to get the picture right.
Very large drawing area, a pleasure to draw on. Some artists use this as a second or third monitor and it’s certainly large enough to fill that job.
Parallax is minimal as the top glass layer is quite close to the LCD panel. The cursor will always be beneath the pen tip.
The screen has a good mate treatment which makes the friction between the pen and the surface very natural, like paper. That alone is one of the best things for me, especially compared to using the iPad with the Apple Pencil. That always felt weird like drawing in glass.
This tablet does not have any hotkeys or express keys on the display. You do have two buttons on the stylus.
The 16K pressure sensitivity of the pen is incredible giving superb control over line weight, opacity etc.
When turn on the pressure sensitive function in art program and draw as if I was using a real pen or pencil.
It’s great when adding texture and shading effects to my artworks. Using the stylus, there is a heightened sense of control and connection to the work.
Price
At $599.99 (USD), you’re getting a large, high-quality 22-inch pen display monitor that looks great and works well.
Whether you’re drawing, editing photos, or sculpting 3d models, the Kamvas 22 Plus (Gen 3) will do the job.
It is half the price of wacom cintiq 22 (2019) and only a fraction of Wacom cintiq pro 22 (2025). This works out to be really good value for the added tablet capability and for what you get in the box.
In Conclusion
The Huion Kamvas 22 Plus (Gen 3) pen display tablet incredible machines that will aid artists and designers in a way that is effective, comfortable and in some cases inspiring.
The experience is fantastic and, while the price is higher than other options, the investment is a one-time cost that’s well worth making. the Kamvas 22 Plus (Gen 3) may not be ideal for everyone, but it is certainly well worth the money.
Having a nice big display like this has actually inspired me to go back to my roots and draw more. The stylus is easily some of the best stylus out there on the market that draws beautiful, controlled, and predictable strokes.
The only negative I can think about is the absence of express keys, which is rather unfortunate. If you want even more programmable shortcuts, optional Huion Keydial Remote and Keydial Mini are available.
If you are considering getting a big 22-inch pen display tablet to get more hands on and add more human qualities to your work, with a more natural experience, I would recommend you consider this display.
